• Sean McLaren has been happily married to Cassandra for 16
years and has three children, Morgan, 22, Connor, 20 and
Madailein, 14.
• Born in Englewood, NJ, his introduction into the food and
beverage world was washing dishes at Guido Fusco's Alpine
Lodge - known as a gathering place for wise guys - and where a
young Phoebe Snow was the singer.
• After graduating from Mount Saint Mary's College Sean indulged
his talent at mentoring by teaching 5th grade History and
English. Further contributing to society, he changed career paths
and took graduate classes in social work at UVA, working with
the mentally challenged at Lynchburg Training School and
Hospital for almost three years. (Some would say this prepared
him perfectly for the F & B business!)
• When he returned to F & B, it was as manager of That Seafood
Place in Virginia Beach and he hasn't looked back. He became
banquet manager at the Ramada Renaissance Hotel in Richmond;
opened a deli near University of Richmond; and then set his sites
on country clubs. Eight years at Country Club of Virginia as
banquet manager, then clubhouse manager; five years as general
manager of Winchester Country Club; seven years as general
manager of Meadowbrook Country Club and one year at Willow
Oaks as clubhouse manager. He's been at the helm of TDC for
five years now - financially the most successful years in the
Club's history.
• He points to TDC's membership as its most valuable asset - its
youth and vitality, friendliness, ability to have fun - it's a place of
updated traditions.
• He particularly enjoys acting as its number one host. Sean knew
he enjoyed connecting to people and fondly remembers Mrs.
Cary, a 90 year old customer of his deli, Frazier & Moore. They
would visit each time she went into the shop and became close
friends - she even remembered him in her will.
• When not at the Club, he enjoys yard work, learning to play the
guitar and sailing
• When asked what are the qualities needed to be successful in his
job, Sean points to listening skills, adaptability and altruism.
• Something Members may not know is that our maintenance
building and clubhouse sites are at the highest elevation in
Henrico.
